Jewel

Jewel Kilcher, known simply as Jewel, is an American singer-songwriter born in Payson, Utah, and raised in Homer, Alaska. She rose to fame in the mid-1990s with a raw, confessional folk-pop sound built around acoustic guitar and an expressive, yodel-inflected voice, part of a wave of introspective female singer-songwriters who reshaped mainstream pop radio at the time.

Her debut album Pieces of You became a slow-building phenomenon, eventually going multi-platinum on the strength of singles like «Who Will Save Your Soul», «Foolish Games» and the wedding-favorite «You Were Meant for Me». Beyond music, Jewel has published poetry and prose, acted on television and in film — including a leading role as June Carter Cash in the TV movie Ring of Fire — and later explored country and electronic-pop directions in her recording career.

Known for writing unusually direct, diaristic lyrics and for a distinctive vocal style rooted in her Alaskan folk upbringing, Jewel remains one of the defining voices of 1990s singer-songwriter pop, with a catalog that spans folk, pop, and country.
