About the artist
Jenny Hval is a Norwegian singer-songwriter, producer, and writer known for boundary-pushing art pop that blends electronic textures with poetic, often confrontational lyrics exploring the body, gender, sexuality, and identity. Before recording under her own name she released two albums as Rockettothesky, then established her signature voice with Viscera, Innocence Is Kinky, and the acclaimed Apocalypse, girl, released via Sacred Bones Records.
Her work is as much literary and performative as musical: she is also a published novelist in Norway, and her albums frequently incorporate spoken word, field recordings, and unconventional song structures rather than conventional pop hooks. Songs like «Conceptual Romance», «That Battle Is Over», and «Innocence Is Kinky» showcase her ability to move between intimate confession and abstract, almost theatrical soundscapes.
Her 2016 album Blood Bitch, co-produced with noise artist Lasse Marhaug, pushed further into vampire and horror-film imagery to explore themes of blood, cycles, and the female body, cementing her reputation as one of the most distinctive and fearless voices in contemporary experimental pop.
