Jenni Rivera

Jenni Rivera, born July 2, 1969, in Long Beach, California, to Mexican immigrant parents, was a Mexican-American singer known as «La Diva de la Banda». She built her career in regional Mexican music, performing banda and norteño styles that were traditionally dominated by men, and became one of the genre’s most successful female artists in the United States.

Her songs, such as «Paloma Negra», «Ya Lo Sé», and «La Gran Señora», often drew on themes of heartbreak, resilience, and female empowerment, resonating deeply with Mexican-American audiences. Beyond music, she was also a television personality and businesswoman, expanding her presence through reality TV and entrepreneurship, which helped bring banda music to wider crossover attention.

Rivera died on December 9, 2012, at age 43, in a plane crash in Mexico shortly after a concert, cutting short a career that had made her one of the best-selling Latin artists of her generation. Her legacy endures through her extensive catalog across twelve major-label albums and her influence on subsequent generations of Latina artists in regional Mexican music.
