Jem and the Holograms

Jem and the Holograms is a fictional pop-rock band and the central subject of the animated television series Jem, which aired for three seasons in the late 1980s. The band originally consisted of Jem on vocals, Kimber on keyboard, Aja on guitar and Shana on synth drums, with drummer Raya joining in the second season, prompting Shana to switch to bass.

Over its run, the series produced more than ninety original songs performed by the Holograms and their frequent rivals and collaborators, blending glossy 1980s pop-rock with synth-driven production typical of the era. Songs such as «Youngblood», «We Got Heart» and the show's theme, «Jem Theme» («Truly Outrageous»), became emblematic of the series' bright, larger-than-life aesthetic and its message of empowerment through music and disguise.

As a fictional act, Jem and the Holograms occupies a unique place in pop culture: a cartoon band whose songs achieved genuine popularity among fans, later inspiring a devoted cult following, merchandise, and a live-action film adaptation decades after the original series concluded.
