Jay and the Americans

Jay and the Americans were an American pop vocal group that rose to prominence in the 1960s, known for polished, harmony-driven singles that regularly reached the upper tiers of the Billboard charts. The group's classic lineup featured lead singer Jay Black alongside Howard Kane, Kenny Vance and Sandy Deanne, and their sound blended doo-wop roots with the lush production style typical of the era's pop hits. They got their start performing at New York-area colleges before being discovered and signed to United Artists.

Their biggest hits, including «Come a Little Bit Closer», «Cara Mia» and «This Magic Moment», showcased Jay Black's dramatic, operatic tenor set against tight vocal harmonies and orchestral arrangements.
