Jarabe de Palo

Jarabe de Palo is a Spanish rock band formed in Barcelona in the mid-1990s, built around the songwriting and distinctive raspy voice of Pau Donés. Blending rock with Latin American rhythms, flamenco touches and pop sensibilities, the group became one of the most recognizable Spanish-language rock acts of its era, with a sound that felt equally at home on Spanish radio and across Latin America.

Their breakthrough single «La Flaca» turned them into an international act almost overnight, and songs like «Depende», «Bonito» and «Agua» cemented a catalogue defined by warm, conversational lyrics and an easy fusion of guitar-driven rock with son, rumba and pop-folk textures. Donés often collaborated with artists across the Spanish-speaking world, reflecting the band's pan-Hispanic appeal.

Over the following decades Jarabe de Palo continued releasing albums that balanced introspective songwriting with upbeat, danceable arrangements, remaining a defining name in Spanish rock even as the lineup around Donés evolved.
