Janis Ian

Janis Ian, born Janis Eddy Fink on April 7, 1951, in New York, is an American singer-songwriter whose career began remarkably early: she wrote and recorded «Society's Child», a song about an interracial relationship, as a teenager in the mid-1960s, which became a controversial hit and established her as a serious voice in folk-influenced pop. Her precocious songwriting and willingness to tackle difficult social subjects set her apart from the start.

She reached her commercial peak in the mid-1970s with the album Between the Lines and its single «At Seventeen», a spare, confessional ballad about adolescent insecurity and social exclusion that became one of the defining singer-songwriter records of the era and earned her a Grammy Award.
