Jamie xx

Jamie xx, born Jamie Smith, is an English producer, DJ, and multi-instrumentalist best known as one third of the London band The xx, alongside vocalists Romy Madley Croft and Oliver Sim. Within the group he shapes much of the minimal, spacious production that defines their sound, but he has built an equally significant career as a solo artist and remixer working at the intersection of dance music, dub, and pop songcraft.

A pivotal early project was his collaboration with the late Gil Scott-Heron, reimagining Scott-Heron’s 2010 comeback album I’m New Here as We’re New Here (2011), a record that helped introduce Jamie’s production sensibility to a wider audience. His solo album In Colour (2015) further cemented his reputation, blending UK rave nostalgia, steel pan and garage textures with an emotional, song-based approach, and featuring tracks like «Loud Places» and «Gosh».

Across his work, Jamie xx is known for a restrained yet richly textured sound — bass-heavy but never cluttered, drawing on UK garage, house, and dub while retaining pop sensibility and emotional clarity. His continued output with The xx and his own productions and remixes have made him one of the more influential British electronic musicians of his generation.
