J. Dash

J. Dash is an American rapper and producer born Jameyel Ontonio Johnson in Jacksonville, Florida, best known for creating the viral dance anthem «WOP». A multi-instrumentalist from childhood, he taught himself piano by ear at five and later played in a blues band as a preteen before studying computer science at the University of Florida.

«WOP» originally appeared on his 2007 independent release Something Else: Music For The Color Blind and slowly gained traction as fans posted dance videos online. After signing to StereoFame Records, founded by Ken Underwood, J. Dash re-released an official version of «WOP» in December 2010, which became a genuine pop-culture phenomenon and crossover hit.

Beyond «WOP», his catalogue includes tracks like «Fresh», «Transformer», «Drugged», «Life» and «Questions», blending rap, pop and electronic influences. He remains best remembered as a one-song sensation whose dance-craze single left a lasting mark on early-2010s pop culture.
