J Boog

J Boog, born Jerry Afemata, is a reggae singer of Samoan descent born in Long Beach and raised in Compton, California. Growing up in a large Samoan family steeped in music and culture, he was drawn early to reggae through his siblings, particularly through Bob Marley's music, which shaped his lifelong devotion to the genre. He emerged in the mid-2000s as part of a wave of California-based reggae artists blending island roots sounds with West Coast sensibilities, a style often associated with the broader Cali-reggae movement.

His music combines classic reggae rhythms with smooth, soulful vocals and lyrics centered on love, unity, and everyday life, appealing to both traditional reggae fans and a wider American audience. Songs such as «Let's Do It Again», «Waiting On the Rain», «Sunshine Girl» and «Ganja Farmer» became staples of his catalog, showcasing his warm delivery and accessible songwriting. His close collaboration with Fijian-born artist Fiji, whom he met in the mid-2000s, played an important role in developing his sound and connecting him further to Pacific Islander reggae traditions.
