Iwan Fals

Iwan Fals, born Virgiawan Listanto in 1961 in Jakarta, is one of Indonesia's most influential singer-songwriters, celebrated for a career built on ballads, folk-pop, and country-inflected rock that carry sharp social and political commentary. He began performing as a street busker and honed his craft in the 1970s, later achieving breakthrough popularity with a string of albums that blended acoustic simplicity with pointed lyrics addressing corruption, poverty, and inequality in Indonesian society.
