Ivan Cornejo

Ivan Cornejo is a Mexican-American singer-songwriter from California who has become one of the leading young voices in the modern regional Mexican and sad sierreño movement. Self-taught on guitar from the age of eight, he began writing songs as a teenager, channeling personal heartbreak and introspection into a style that blends traditional sierreño instrumentation with the melancholic sensibility of alternative and indie music. His raw, confessional lyrics and emotive vocal delivery quickly resonated with a young, bicultural audience.

His 2021 debut album Alma Vacía introduced his signature sound and charted on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart shortly after release, while singles such as «Está Dañado» and «Dónde Estás» became fan favorites. He built on this momentum with his 2022 sophomore album Dañado, which debuted at the top of the Regional Mexican Albums chart and later received a deluxe reissue with additional tracks.

Cornejo has been recognized at the Billboard Latin Music Awards, winning Regional Mexican Album of the Year and earning nominations for New Artist of the Year and Regional Mexican Artist of the Year, Solo. His music, including tracks like «Aquí Te Espero» and «Me Prometí», is often credited with helping popularize a more melancholic, guitar-driven strain of regional Mexican music among younger listeners.
