Irakli Charkviani

Irakli Charkviani, often referred to as «the King» by fans, was a Georgian musician, singer-songwriter, and poet widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in modern Georgian rock and alternative music. He began his career as a member of the band Tbilisi, later releasing music with the group known as «Taxi» before launching a prolific solo career starting with his 1993 album «Svan Songs».

His sound drew on a wide range of influences, blending rock, pop, R&B and electronic textures with introspective, poetic Georgian-language lyrics, making him a distinctive voice that stood apart from the mainstream pop of his era. Songs like «Menatreba», «Suls» and «Vitsi Rom» became beloved staples of Georgian popular music, admired for their emotional depth and literary sensibility.

Beyond music, Charkviani was known for his work as a writer and poet, and his artistic legacy continues to shape younger generations of Georgian musicians. He remains a cult figure in Georgia, celebrated for combining introspective songwriting with musical experimentation across decades of work.
