Игорь Тальков (Igor Talkov)

Igor Talkov (1956–1991) was a Soviet rock musician, singer-songwriter, guitarist, poet and actor who became one of the most distinctive and politically charged voices of late-Soviet rock. Before establishing his solo career, he collaborated with several groups, including «Апрель», «Калейдоскоп» and «Электроклуб», eventually founding and fronting his own band, «Спасательный круг». His music combined melodic rock songwriting with sharply personal and often patriotic or protest-driven lyrics, addressing themes of Russian national identity, history, and social upheaval during the perestroika era.

Songs such as «Россия», «Я вернусь» and «Чистые пруды» established him as an artist whose work resonated deeply amid the political turbulence of the late 1980s and early 1990s, blending lyrical introspection with outspoken civic commentary. His sound stood apart from mainstream Soviet estrada, carrying the rougher, more confessional edge of Soviet rock while retaining strong melodic hooks.

Talkov's life was cut short when he was shot and killed in Saint Petersburg in October 1991, an unsolved death that has become part of the mythology surrounding him as a martyr-like figure in Russian rock history. He is the father of musician Igor Talkov Jr., frontman of the band «МирИмиР», who has continued to perform and reference his father's legacy.
