i-dle (아이들)

(G)I-DLE, now known simply as i-dle, is a South Korean girl group formed by Cube Entertainment that debuted in May 2018 with «LATATA». The current lineup consists of Soyeon, Miyeon, Minnie, Yuqi and Shuhua, following the 2021 departure of original member Soojin. The group broke ground in K-pop for being largely self-producing, with leader Soyeon writing and producing much of their material, a rarity for a female idol act.

Musically, i-dle blends pop, hip-hop, R&B and rock elements, often favoring unconventional song structures, Latin- and trap-influenced beats, and lyrics centered on confidence, self-worth and feminist themes. Tracks like «Nxde», «TOMBOY» and «퀸카 (Queencard)» showcase their willingness to tackle bold, sometimes provocative subject matter while staying accessible to mainstream audiences, and «HWAA» drew on traditional Korean folklore for its concept.

The group first gained wider international attention through their appearance on Mnet's competition show Queendom in 2019, which introduced global audiences to originals like «Uh-Oh» and «Lion». Since then, i-dle has become one of the most commercially successful fourth-generation K-pop girl groups, known for consistently charting hits, strong visual concepts and a reputation for creative control uncommon among idol groups.
