HWASA (화사)

HWASA, born Ahn Hye-jin, is a South Korean singer, rapper, and songwriter best known as the lead rapper and sub-vocalist of the K-pop girl group MAMAMOO. Renowned for her powerful, distinctive vocal tone and bold stage presence, she has built a reputation as one of the most technically gifted and unconventional performers in contemporary K-pop.

Her solo career began with the 2019 single «TWIT» (멍청이), establishing her as a formidable soloist independent of her group. Her debut EP Maria, released in 2020, cemented that identity with its bold, theatrical title track. She continued to push her artistic range with the 2021 EP Guilty Pleasure and its lead single «I'm a B» (I'm a 빛), and after leaving RBW to sign with P Nation, released the 2023 single «I Love My Body» and her second EP, O, in 2024.

HWASA is known for genre-blending production spanning pop, R&B, and hip hop, often paired with unapologetic, self-assured lyrical themes. Beyond her own catalogue, she has been an active collaborator, working with artists including LOCO on «Don't Give It To Me», contributing a remix of Dua Lipa's «Physical», and featuring on ONEWE's «Q», while also delivering standout solo cuts on MAMAMOO's group albums.
