Hoyt Curtin

Hoyt Curtin was an American composer best known as the principal musical architect behind Hanna-Barbera Productions, the animation studio responsible for many of television's most enduring cartoons. Working closely with producers William Hanna and Joseph Barbera from the studio's earliest years, Curtin composed the majority of its theme songs and scored much of its background music from the 1960s onward, giving the studio's output a consistent and instantly recognizable musical identity.

His compositions became woven into American popular culture: the jazzy, futuristic theme for «The Jetsons», the swinging big-band feel of «Meet the Flintstones», and catchy title tracks for «Top Cat», «Quick Draw McGraw», «The Yogi Bear Show», «Magilla Gorilla» and «Scooby-Doo». Curtin had a gift for distilling a show's tone into a short, memorable musical hook, often drawing on jazz and swing idioms that gave otherwise simple children's programming a surprisingly sophisticated sound.

Beyond Hanna-Barbera, Curtin also contributed music to other productions of the era, including work associated with filmmaker Ed Wood and the animated series «Battle of the Planets». His theme songs remain some of the most widely recognized pieces of television music ever written, still instantly familiar to generations of viewers decades after their original broadcast.
