Howard Shore

Howard Shore is a Canadian composer and conductor widely regarded as one of the most significant film composers of his generation. Born in Toronto, he first gained prominence as the founding musical director of «Saturday Night Live» before moving into film scoring, beginning a long and prolific partnership with directors such as David Cronenberg.

Shore is best known internationally for composing the sweeping orchestral and choral scores for Peter Jackson's «The Lord of the Rings» trilogy and its «The Hobbit» follow-up, work spanning the early 2000s through the mid-2010s that wove leitmotifs for characters, races and places into a vast symphonic tapestry, drawing on folk idioms, invented languages and large choruses. The achievement earned him multiple Academy Awards and Grammy Awards and remains a touchstone of modern fantasy film scoring.

Beyond Middle-earth, Shore's catalogue spans dark, dissonant scores for Cronenberg films like «The Fly» and «Crash», as well as work on «Se7en», «Philadelphia» and «Hugo».
