HONNE

HONNE are a British electronic-soul duo formed in Bow, London, in 2014, consisting of producer James Hatcher and singer/producer Andy Clutterbuck. The pair met at university and began working together between music-teaching jobs, taking their name from the Japanese word honne (本音), meaning one's true, private feelings as opposed to the public face one presents to the world.

Their sound blends soulful vocals and jazz-tinged chord progressions with contemporary electronic production, creating a warm, intimate style that sits between R&B, pop, and downtempo electronic music. They released their debut single «Warm on a Cold Night» in 2014 through Super Recordings — the label behind AlunaGeorge and Bondax — and later put out music through their own imprint, Tatemae Recordings, named after the companion concept to honne in Japanese culture.

Songs such as «Someone That Loves You», «Day 1», «Good Together» and «Me & You» showcase HONNE's knack for tender, emotionally direct songwriting, often built around Clutterbuck's smooth vocal delivery and Hatcher's polished production. Over the years the duo has collaborated with a range of vocalists and rappers, blending genres while maintaining their signature warmth.
