Hillsong Young & Free

Hillsong Young & Free is the youth ministry arm of Hillsong Church, formed in Sydney, Australia, to reach a younger generation with worship music built on an explicitly electronic, dance-pop foundation. Distinct from its sibling ministries Hillsong UNITED and Hillsong Worship, Young & Free leans into EDM, synth-pop and trap-influenced production, aiming to make congregational worship feel at home in a club or festival setting.

The group broke through with songs like «This Is Living» and «Alive», tracks that paired upbeat, danceable production with straightforward declarations of faith, and found an audience beyond typical worship-music listeners thanks to their pop-radio-friendly sheen. Their live recordings capture youth-conference energy, with pulsing beats and synth layers standing in for the guitar-driven arrangements more typical of older worship acts.

As one of Hillsong's flagship youth-facing projects, Young & Free has helped push contemporary worship music toward mainstream pop and electronic aesthetics, appealing directly to a generation raised on EDM and streaming-era pop rather than traditional church music.
