Hilight tribe

Hilight Tribe is a French musical collective formed in the mid-1990s, blending psychedelic trance with ethnic and tribal influences drawn from Native American, Indian, and other indigenous traditions. Fronted by vocalist Sioban Michel, the group grew out of the free-party and Goa trance scene in France, playing acoustic and electronic sets around festival campfires before evolving into a full live act combining didgeridoo, flutes, hand drums, and dance beats with hypnotic chanting.

The band became closely associated with the free-party movement and environmental and spiritual themes, often invoking messages of unity, nature, and indigenous rights in their lyrics and stage presence. Their sound sits at the crossroads of world music and electronic dance music, appealing both to psytrance festival crowds and broader world-fusion audiences.

Their best-known track, «Free Tibet», became an anthem of the free-party and trance scene, later gaining a second life through a remix by Vini Vici that introduced the song to a new generation of psytrance fans. Songs such as «Shankara» further cemented their reputation for combining tribal percussion with trance production, and Hilight Tribe remains a recognizable name on the European festival circuit.
