About the artist
Hideki Sakamoto is a Japanese composer and sound director best known for his work on Nintendo's Super Smash Bros. series, where he served as sound director and lead composer for the Nintendo 3DS/Wii U and Ultimate installments. Rather than writing all the music himself, he coordinated an enormous roster of contributing composers and arrangers, weaving together new compositions and reinterpretations of themes from across Nintendo's history into a cohesive soundtrack.
His stand-out original composition, «Lifelight», serves as the main theme of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and became one of the most recognized pieces of video game vocal music of its era, praised for its sweeping choral arrangement. Sakamoto also contributed to soundtracks for Sega's Yakuza series (Yakuza 2, Yakuza: Kenzan!) and the PlayStation puzzle game Echochrome, showing range beyond orchestral fanfare into moodier, atmospheric writing.
He is the representative director of Noisycroak, a Tokyo-based sound design studio focused on game audio, through which much of his professional output is organized. His work sits at the intersection of orchestral, choral, and electronic idioms, tailored to the needs of large ensemble casts and crossover game universes.
