About the artist
Halid Bešlić (1953–2025) was a Bosnian folk singer born in Vrapci near Knežina, one of the most beloved performers of narodna muzika (folk/pop music) in the former Yugoslavia and the wider Balkan region. He began his professional career in 1979 and went on to release 17 studio albums over more than four decades, becoming a defining voice of Bosnian sevdah-tinged pop-folk. His warm, emotive baritone and melancholic delivery made songs about love, homeland and longing resonate across generations.
Among his best-known songs are «Romanija», «Miljacka», «Ljiljani», «Crna ruža» and «Sarajevo, srećo moja», tracks that became anthems of Bosnian identity and are still widely performed and covered today. He toured extensively across the Balkans and Europe, playing to large diaspora audiences, and took part in humanitarian concerts supporting his homeland.
Bešlić is regarded as one of the pillars of Bosnian popular music, bridging traditional sevdalinka influences with modern pop-folk arrangements. His decades-long career and extensive discography left a lasting mark on the genre and influenced later generations of Bosnian and regional performers.
