half•alive

half•alive is a trio from Costa Mesa, California, formed in 2016 by Josh Tyler Johnson, Josh Taylor and Brett Kramer. After Taylor's previous band, The Moderates, disbanded, he began writing the material that became the group's debut EP, 3, released in 2017, which quickly built an online following through streaming. Their sound blends indie pop, funk-inflected bass lines, falsetto vocals and electronic textures, giving them a distinctive, danceable identity within alternative pop.

The band's profile rose sharply with the 2018 single «still feel.», whose inventive, tightly choreographed music video became a viral talking point and led to a deal with RCA Records. The song later charted on Billboard's Alternative Songs chart and has amassed tens of millions of streams. In 2019 half•alive released their debut full-length album, Now, Not Yet, and toured extensively across North America, Europe, and Australia and New Zealand, while also being highlighted as one of YouTube's Artists on the Rise.

Subsequent releases, including the Give Me Your Shoulders project and singles like «creature», «the fall», «RUNAWAY» and «arrow», continued to showcase the band's mix of introspective songwriting and striking visual presentation, with music videos and choreography remaining a core part of their identity. half•alive is regarded as a distinctive voice in modern alternative and indie pop for pairing emotionally direct lyrics with bold, movement-driven visuals.
