Hale

Hale is a Filipino rock band formed in Manila in the mid-2000s, fronted by vocalist Champ Lui Pio. Emerging alongside a wave of OPM (original Pilipino music) acts, the group built its reputation on radio-friendly alternative rock songs paired with introspective, often romantic lyrics delivered in a mix of English and Filipino. Their breakthrough single «The Day You Said Goodnight» became one of the defining OPM ballads of its era, propelling their self-titled debut album to wide commercial success and heavy radio rotation across the Philippines.

Over the following years Hale released a string of albums that expanded their sound from guitar-driven pop-rock toward more polished, melodic arrangements, with songs like «Kung Wala Ka», «Blue Sky» and «Kahit Pa» cementing them as festival and concert staples. The band went through a hiatus and later reunited, a common arc for OPM groups of their generation, and continued performing for a loyal fanbase that grew up with their music.

Hale's catalogue, including tracks such as «Shooting Star», «Bahay Kubo», «Broken Sonnet» and «Sandali Na Lang», remains a touchstone of 2000s Philippine rock, valued for its emotional directness and sing-along choruses.
