About the artist
G. V. Prakash Kumar is an Indian composer, singer, actor and producer best known for his work in Tamil cinema. The nephew of legendary composer A. R. Rahman, he first appeared as a vocalist on Rahman's soundtrack for «Gentleman» before launching his own career as a film composer with «Veyyil» (2006), directed by Vasantha Balan and produced by S. Shankar.
Over the years he has become one of the most prolific and versatile composers in the Tamil film industry, working across genres from youthful pop and rock-inflected songs to rap and folk-tinged numbers. He drew wide acclaim for the soundtrack of «Madrasapattinam», particularly the song «Pookal Pookum Tharunam», and further cemented his reputation with his score for Selvaraghavan's «Mayakkam Enna», featuring Dhanush, on which Prakash also sang alongside Saindhavi.
Beyond composing, he has lent his voice to numerous soundtracks and has also worked as a playback singer on projects by other composers, including Harris Jayaraj's «Anniyan» and «Unnale Unnale». His music blends contemporary production with regional melodic sensibilities, making him a central figure in modern Tamil film music alongside collaborations with directors such as A. L. Vijay and Selvaraghavan.
