Günther

Günther is the stage persona of Swedish performer Mats Söderlund, born in 1967, who worked as a fashion model before turning to music. He burst onto the European dance-pop scene in 2004 with the single «Ding Dong Song», a deliberately over-the-top disco-Eurodance track built around innuendo-laden lyrics and a campy lounge-lizard stage persona — gold lamé outfits, a pencil moustache, and a troupe of backing dancers called the Sunshine Girls. The song became a viral hit and internet meme long before "viral" was a common term, topping charts in Sweden and becoming a cult favorite across Europe.

His debut and, to date, only full album, «Pleasureman», arrived the same year and leaned fully into the same winking, hypersexualized satire of disco and lounge culture. Tracks like «Teeny Weeny String Bikini» and «Tuttifrutti Summerlove» continued the formula of glossy Eurodance production paired with absurdist, tongue-in-cheek lyrics, positioning Günther less as a straightforward pop act and more as a parody figure operating inside the genre he was mocking and celebrating at once.

While Günther never broke through commercially outside Europe, his aesthetic — kitschy, self-aware, deliberately ridiculous — earned him a lasting cult following online, where clips of «Ding Dong Song» and its cast of dancers continued to circulate for years. He has released occasional singles since, including holiday-themed material like «Christmas Song (Ding Dong)», but has not followed up with a second studio album.
