Gregorian

Gregorian is a German musical project created by producer Frank Peterson that reinterprets contemporary pop and rock songs in a style inspired by Gregorian chant, performed by a male vocal ensemble over atmospheric, choral-influenced arrangements. Rather than performing traditional liturgical chant, the project applies a monastic, reverent vocal aesthetic to well-known songs from artists across pop and rock history.

Since its debut in the late 1990s, Gregorian has built its catalog around covers such as «Bring Me To Life», «Running Up That Hill» and Enya's «Moment of Peace», alongside original and traditional sacred pieces like «Ave Maria» and «Gloria in Excelsis». The formula pairs deep, resonant male harmonies with ambient production, creating a distinctive crossover between new-age, classical crossover and mainstream pop covers.

The project has released a long series of «Masters of Chant» albums and become one of the more commercially durable examples of the chant-pop crossover genre, appealing to audiences drawn to both its spiritual atmosphere and its reworking of familiar rock and pop hits into a solemn choral register.
