Gloria Estefan

Gloria Estefan is a Cuban-American singer, songwriter and actress who became one of the defining voices of Latin crossover pop. Born in Havana and raised in Miami after her family fled Cuba, she rose to fame as lead singer of Miami Sound Machine, the group led by her future husband and producer Emilio Estefan. Their fusion of Latin percussion, disco and pop broke into the American mainstream in the mid-1980s with hits like «Conga» and «Rhythm Is Gonna Get You», turning Miami's Latin sound into a national phenomenon.

A severe bus accident in 1990 nearly ended her career, but she returned within a year with the album Into the Light, cementing her image as a survivor. Throughout the 1990s she alternated between English-language pop and Spanish-language records, winning acclaim for «Mi Tierra», a tribute to traditional Cuban music that topped Latin charts and became a landmark crossover achievement. Songs such as «Anything for You», «1-2-3», «Get on Your Feet» and «Turn the Beat Around» kept her at the top of the pop charts.

Beyond music, Estefan built a career as an actress, businesswoman and philanthropist, co-owning hotels and restaurants in Miami with Emilio and later co-writing the jukebox musical On Your Feet! about their lives. She remains one of the best-selling Latin artists in history and a key figure in bringing Latin sounds into English-language pop.
