Glenn Miller and His Orchestra

Glenn Miller and His Orchestra was one of the defining big bands of the swing era, led by American trombonist and bandleader Glenn Miller. Formed in the late 1930s, the ensemble quickly became the most commercially successful dance band in the United States, known for its smooth, tightly arranged sound built around a distinctive clarinet-lead reed section blended with saxophones.

The orchestra produced a string of era-defining hits, including «Moonlight Serenade», which became its signature theme, «Chattanooga Choo Choo», «Little Brown Jug», «Tuxedo Junction», and «Pennsylvania 6-5000». «Chattanooga Choo Choo» is widely cited as one of the first recordings to be certified a gold record. The band's polished arrangements and danceable rhythms made it a fixture of radio broadcasts and ballrooms across America.

During World War II, Miller enlisted and led the Army Air Force Band, entertaining troops before disappearing on a flight over the English Channel in December 1944. The Glenn Miller Orchestra name has continued under various leaders as a touring tribute act, but the original recordings remain a cornerstone of American popular music and the swing genre.
