Glenn Fredly

Glenn Fredly (1975–2019), full name Glenn Fredly Deviano Latuihamallo, was an Indonesian R&B singer, songwriter and producer who became one of the most influential figures in modern Indonesian pop music. Born in Jakarta with Moluccan roots he often celebrated in his music and public life, he rose to prominence after winning a singing competition in the mid-1990s and went on to release more than a decade's worth of albums that blended R&B, jazz and Indonesian pop sensibilities.

Fredly was known for a warm, expressive voice and a songwriting style that favored romantic, melancholic ballads, heard on hits such as «Januari», «Sekali Ini Saja» and «Kasih Putih». Beyond his own catalogue, he was an active producer and mentor, helping shape the careers of younger Indonesian artists including Yura Yunita, and he broadened his public profile as a coach on the Indonesian edition of The Voice.

His work helped popularize a smoother, R&B-inflected sound within Indonesian mainstream pop and cemented his reputation as both a hitmaker and a respected industry figure, with an influence that extended well beyond his own recordings into the wider development of the country's music scene.
