Girls Aloud

Girls Aloud were one of the most successful British girl groups of the 21st century, formed in 2002 on the ITV reality competition «Popstars: The Rivals». The lineup — Cheryl, Nadine Coyle, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts and Kimberley Walsh — quickly outgrew its talent-show origins, becoming known for sharp pop songwriting and production that leaned into unconventional structures, glossy electronic textures and confident, distinctly British attitude, largely shaped by the Xenomania production team.

The group racked up twenty consecutive UK top 10 singles, including four number ones, with songs such as «Sound of the Underground», «Love Machine», «Biology», «Something Kinda Ooooh» and «Call the Shots» showcasing a willingness to break from standard pop formulas that set them apart from many peers of their era. «The Promise» and «Can't Speak French» further reflected their range, while «Theme to St Trinian's» tied the group to the broader British pop-culture landscape of the 2000s.

After going on hiatus in 2009 to pursue solo work, Girls Aloud reunited in 2012 for their tenth-anniversary greatest hits collection, Ten, followed by the Ten: The Hits Tour, before disbanding in March 2013. Sarah Harding died of breast cancer in September 2021; the surviving members later reunited to mark the group's 20th anniversary, cementing their legacy as a defining act of 2000s British pop.
