Gene Wilder was an American actor and comedian, best known for his warm, eccentric screen persona and his collaborations with director Mel Brooks. Born Jerome Silberman in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he trained as an actor and made his name on stage before breaking into film in the late 1960s.
He became a household name playing the title role in «Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory» (1971), where his rendition of «Pure Imagination» remains one of the most beloved musical moments in family cinema. Wilder also starred in Mel Brooks classics such as «Young Frankenstein» and «Blazing Saddles», and formed a celebrated on-screen partnership with Richard Pryor in films including «Stir Crazy».
