Gary Wright

Gary Wright is an American singer, songwriter, and keyboardist best known for his 1975 hit «Dream Weaver», a spacey, synthesizer-driven ballad that became one of the defining sounds of mid-1970s pop and helped popularize the synthesizer as a lead instrument in mainstream rock. He followed it with the equally successful «Love Is Alive», cementing his reputation as a pioneer of keyboard-centered pop production.

Before his solo breakthrough, Wright was a member of the British rock band Spooky Tooth, where he contributed as a singer and keyboard player, absorbing a bluesy, hard rock sensibility that would later blend with his interest in spiritual and meditative themes. He was closely associated with George Harrison, who played on «Dream Weaver» and with whom Wright shared an interest in Eastern spirituality, an influence audible in the atmospheric, introspective quality of his best-known work.

Wright’s sound combined lush synthesizer textures with soulful vocal melodies, placing him at the intersection of soft rock, progressive pop, and early electronic experimentation.
