Gary Valenciano

Gary Valenciano, widely known by the nickname Mr. Pure Energy, is a Filipino singer, dancer, songwriter and actor regarded as one of the most influential figures in Philippine popular music (OPM). Emerging in the 1980s, he became known for high-energy live performances combining vocal power with dance, at a time when few Filipino pop acts built stage shows around choreography to that degree.

His catalog spans upbeat pop and R&B numbers alongside deeply personal ballads and Christian-themed songs, reflecting his openly expressed Christian faith, which became a defining thread running through much of his later work such as «Lead Me Lord». He is also closely associated with Philippine Christmas music, with songs like «Pasko Na Sinta Ko» and «Himig Ng Pasko» becoming holiday staples played across the country each December.

Beyond his own recordings, Valenciano has remained a fixture of Philippine television and stage, and his songs, including «Sana Maulit Muli» and «Di Na Natuto», are counted among the enduring standards of the OPM canon, covered and referenced across generations of Filipino artists.
