Freddie Aguilar

Freddie Aguilar, born Ferdinand Pascual Aguilar in 1953, is a Filipino folk musician widely regarded as one of the most influential singer-songwriters in Philippine music history. He rose to national and international prominence with his song «Anak» («Child»), a heartfelt ballad about the relationship between parent and child that became one of the best-selling Philippine records of all time and was translated and covered in numerous languages around the world.

Aguilar is equally known for «Bayan Ko» («My Country»), a patriotic song that became an anthem of the political opposition during the Marcos regime and remains closely associated with the People Power movement. His music is rooted in acoustic folk traditions, often centered on his voice and guitar, and addresses themes of family, love, and social and political conscience, reflecting the everyday concerns of Filipino life.
