Frankie J

Frankie J is a Mexican American singer, songwriter, and rapper who rose to prominence in San Diego's late-1990s freestyle and Latin urban scene before becoming a member of the Kumbia Kings alongside A.B. Quintanilla. His blend of R&B-influenced vocals with pop and Latin rhythms helped bridge English and Spanish-language markets during the early 2000s.

His solo debut, What's a Man to Do, arrived in 2003 and produced the hit «Don't Wanna Try». He became widely known for «Obsession (No Es Amor)», a bilingual reworking of the Kumbia Kings track that became a crossover radio staple, later remixed by Luny Tunes for the reggaeton audience. Subsequent albums moved fluidly between English-language pop-R&B and Spanish-language releases, reflecting his roots in both traditions.
