Frankie Avalon

Frankie Avalon, born Francis Thomas Avallone on September 18, 1940, is an American singer and actor who became one of the top teen idols of the late 1950s. He scored a string of hits on the Billboard charts between 1958 and 1962, including the number-one singles «Venus» and «Why», establishing him as a leading figure in the pre-Beatles American pop scene alongside fellow teen idols of the era.

His sound belonged to the clean-cut, orchestrated pop style typical of the period, built around warm crooning vocals and romantic themes aimed squarely at a young audience. Beyond music, Avalon became a major screen presence in the 1960s, starring in a series of Beach Party films that made him a symbol of that era's beach and surf culture.

He later found renewed fame through film, most notably a memorable supporting role and musical number, «Beauty School Dropout», in the 1978 movie musical Grease, introducing him to a new generation. Avalon also recorded holiday standards such as «Blue Christmas» and «The Christmas Song», cementing his place as a versatile entertainer spanning pop, film and seasonal music.
