Foster the People

Foster the People is an American indie pop band formed in Los Angeles in 2009, led by singer-songwriter Mark Foster alongside multi-instrumentalist Isom Innis. The band rose to global prominence with their breakout single «Pumped Up Kicks», a track whose deceptively breezy, synth-driven sound belied its dark lyrical content, propelling their debut album to widespread commercial success and radio ubiquity.

Musically, the group blends melodic dance-infused pop with rock and electronic textures, often layering falsetto vocals, buoyant synth hooks, and shifting rhythmic grooves. This eclecticism has allowed them to move across genre boundaries while retaining a recognizably hook-driven, festival-friendly sound. Songs like «Sit Next to Me», «Houdini», and «Helena Beat» showcase the band's knack for pairing upbeat production with more introspective or melancholic themes.

Over the years, the band's lineup has shifted, with founding member Jacob «Cubbie» Fink departing after their second album, while touring musicians such as Tyler Halford and formerly Phil Danyew have contributed to their live sound.
