Florist

Florist is an American indie folk band formed in 2013 and led by singer-songwriter Emily Sprague, whose hushed, intimate vocals and plainspoken lyricism define the group’s sound. The lineup rounds out with Rick Spataro on bass, keyboards, and synthesizers, Jonnie Baker on guitar and keyboards, and Felix Walworth on drums, though much of the band’s catalog was built around Sprague’s songwriting core.

The band emerged from the Brooklyn DIY and bedroom-recording scene, and their early work carries the lo-fi warmth of that world, built on fingerpicked guitar, soft synth textures, and unhurried tempos. Songs such as «Thank You» and «1914» reflect their recurring themes of loss, nature, and quiet observation, while tracks like «Vacation» and «Glowing Brightly» show a gradual opening toward richer, more layered arrangements as the band matured.

Florist’s music is often described as meditative rather than dramatic, favoring space and restraint over hooks. Sprague’s parallel work as a solo ambient artist has fed back into the band’s sound, giving later releases a more textural, atmospheric quality while retaining the folk intimacy that defined their earliest recordings.
