Farya Faraji

Farya Faraji is an Iranian-born composer and multi-instrumentalist based in Canada whose music draws on ethnic and folkloric traditions spanning the medieval, renaissance, and classical antiquity periods. Rather than working within a single national tradition, he weaves together Iranian, Byzantine, Turkic, Greek, Slavic, Norse, West-European, and Moroccan musical elements into historically-informed compositions.

His output ranges widely in mood and scale, from sweeping epic pieces like «Belisarius» and songs tied to historical figures and dynasties — «The Seljuks», «The Safavids», «The Sasanians» — to quieter, more contemplative and mournful works. He often performs on traditional instruments and sings in the historical languages relevant to each piece, giving his work a distinctive sense of authenticity within the world of historically-inspired and folk-fusion music.

Faraji built his following largely through YouTube, where he has released music since around 2019, and has become known within online communities interested in historical reenactment, ancient and medieval history, and folk revival for bridging rigorous musicological interest with emotionally resonant songwriting.
