Fancey

Fancey is the solo recording project of Canadian musician Todd Fancey, who is better known as the longtime guitarist of the indie rock band The New Pornographers and as bassist of the alt-rock group Limblifter. Working outside the collaborative pop machinery of those bands, Fancey lets him indulge a warmer, more personal songwriting style rooted in classic pop and soft rock, with hooky melodies, layered guitars and a nostalgic, sun-baked feel that recalls 1970s AM radio.

His debut album, self-titled Fancey, arrived in 2004 and established the project's breezy, melodic sound. He followed it with Schmancey in 2007, then took an extended break before returning with Love Mirage in 2017 and County Fair in 2018, both of which leaned further into laid-back, harmony-rich pop songwriting.

As a member of The New Pornographers, Fancey has played alongside artists such as Neko Case, A.C. Newman and Dan Bejar, giving him a foothold in one of Canadian indie rock's most celebrated collectives. The Fancey project remains his outlet for gentler, more intimate material outside the collaborative pop-rock of his main bands.
