Fally Ipupa

Fally Ipupa, born Faustin Ipupa Nsimba in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo, is one of the most prominent figures in modern Congolese rumba and African pop. He rose to prominence as a guitarist and vocalist in Koffi Olomidé’s band Quartier Latin before launching a hugely successful solo career, marked by his 2006 breakthrough album «Droit Chemin», followed by releases such as «Arsenal de Belles Mélodies» and «Power (Kosa Leka)».

Ipupa’s music blends traditional Congolese rumba and soukous guitar work with R&B, pop, and hip-hop influences, giving him a sound that bridges generations of Central African music while appealing to broader international audiences. His smooth vocal delivery, elaborate stage shows, and fashion-forward image have made him a defining figure of contemporary Congolese celebrity culture.

Over his career he has collaborated with a wide range of African and international artists, helping carry Congolese rumba — a genre later recognized by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage — to new listeners across the continent and diaspora.
