Evelyn Evelyn

Evelyn Evelyn is a musical project built around the fictional conceit of conjoined twin sisters, created by musicians Amanda Palmer and Jason Webley. Performing in costumes designed to give the illusion of a single, conjoined body, the duo built an elaborate fictional backstory for the Evelyn sisters that ran alongside their actual songwriting and performances, blending theatrical fiction with cabaret-inflected pop and rock.

The project drew on both artists' backgrounds — Palmer's work with the Dresden Dolls and her theatrical, confessional songwriting, and Webley's roots in itinerant, accordion-driven folk and rock — to create a sound that is playful, dark and unmistakably handmade. Songs such as «Have You Seen My Sister Evelyn?» and «Sandy Fishnets» carry the narrative conceit forward through character-driven lyrics, while tracks like «A Campaign of Shock and Awe» and the two-part «Tragic Events» lean into darker, more theatrical territory.

The concept generated controversy for its treatment of disability as fictional device, which Palmer and Webley addressed publicly. Regardless, Evelyn Evelyn remains a notable example of concept-driven collaborative art in the DIY and cabaret-punk scenes that both artists otherwise inhabit individually.
