Eurythmics

Eurythmics is a British duo formed by Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart, who first met and played together in the band The Tourists before launching their own project. Stewart moved from guitar to synthesizers while Lennox developed her striking androgynous image, and together they became one of the defining acts of early-1980s synth-pop, blending electronic textures with soul-inflected vocals and a dark, new-wave-tinged sensibility.

Their breakthrough came with «Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)», a top-ten hit across multiple countries that established their signature sound of icy synthesizers set against Lennox's powerful, emotive voice. They followed it with a run of hits including «Here Comes the Rain Again», «Love Is a Stranger», «Would I Lie to You?», «Missionary Man» and «There Must Be an Angel (Playing with My Heart)», scoring over twenty UK top 40 singles through the decade while evolving from their earlier, darker aesthetic toward a more polished pop-rock sound.

Eurythmics also made a mark with the collaborative anthem «Sisters Are Doin' It for Themselves», featuring Aretha Franklin. The duo largely stepped back from recording together in 1990, with Lennox pursuing a successful solo career and Stewart continuing as a prolific producer and collaborator, though they have reunited periodically over the years.
