About the artist
Ermal Meta is an Albanian-born Italian singer-songwriter, composer and multi-instrumentalist, born in Fier, Albania in 1981. He emigrated to Italy as a child and built his early career as frontman of the band La Fame di Camilla, with whom he competed at the Sanremo Festival in 2010 before the group disbanded in 2013. After the split he worked extensively as a songwriter for major Italian artists including Emma, Francesco Renga, Patty Pravo, Marco Mengoni, Francesca Michielin and Giusy Ferreri.
As a solo artist Meta released his debut album «Umano» in 2016, the same year he returned to Sanremo with «Odio le favole», placing third in the Nuove Proposte category. His breakthrough as a headline performer came the following year with «Vietato morire», which topped the Italian charts and earned him third place in the main Sanremo competition along with the Premio della Critica «Mia Martini». In 2018 he won Sanremo outright alongside Fabrizio Moro with the socially charged «Non mi avete fatto niente», later representing Italy at Eurovision.
Meta's sound blends Italian cantautore songwriting tradition with pop-rock arrangements, often addressing social and political themes alongside personal ones. Tracks like «A parte te», «Stella stellina» and «Piccola anima» show his range from intimate ballads to anthemic pop, and his continued presence at Sanremo and collaborations across the Italian music industry have made him one of the country's most respected contemporary songwriters.
