Erick Morillo

Erick Morillo was an American house music DJ and producer widely regarded as one of the defining figures of the 1990s and 2000s house scene. Raised in New York after being born in Colombia, he emerged in the early 1990s with the group Reel 2 Real, whose track «I Like to Move It» became a global crossover hit and later found new life through animated film soundtracks.

Morillo built a prolific career as both a solo artist and remixer, releasing music under aliases such as Chocolate Puma and Ministers de la Funk, and became closely associated with tribal and Latin-tinged house sounds layered over driving, percussive grooves. He founded the influential label Subliminal Records in the mid-1990s, which became a home for a generation of house producers and helped shape the sound of American house music internationally.

As a DJ, Morillo was a fixture of major club circuits and festivals worldwide, known for high-energy sets that bridged mainstream dance-pop and underground house. He continued releasing and remixing tracks into the 2010s, remaining an influential name in dance music until his death in 2020.
