Eric Idle

Eric Idle is an English actor, comedian, musician, and writer, best known as a founding member of the Monty Python comedy troupe. Born in South Shields, England, he rose to fame through the groundbreaking sketch series Monty Python's Flying Circus in the late 1960s and 1970s, and went on to co-write and star in the group's films, including Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Life of Brian.

Beyond sketch comedy, Idle became known for his musical comedy work, writing witty, satirical songs that blended absurdist humor with genuine melodic craft. His best-known composition, «Always Look on the Bright Side of Life», became an enduring anthem of comic optimism, sung at funerals, sporting events, and countless other occasions far beyond its original film context.

In the 2000s Idle adapted Monty Python and the Holy Grail into the hit Broadway musical Spamalot, for which he wrote the book and lyrics, further cementing his reputation as a comic songwriter.
