ERA

ERA is a new-age music project created by French composer Éric Lévi, launched in the mid-1990s. Rather than a conventional band, it functions as a studio-based production built around Lévi's compositions, featuring vocalists performing over large orchestral and choral arrangements. A distinctive feature of the project is its use of invented, meaningless lyrics — pseudo-Latin or pseudo-Greek-sounding syllables crafted by lyricist Guy Protheroe purely for their sound and emotional resonance rather than semantic content.

Musically, ERA is known for fusing Gregorian-style chant and choral textures with contemporary rock, pop and electronic production, creating a sweeping, cinematic sound that became widely popular in the late 1990s and 2000s. This combination of ancient-sounding vocal traditions with modern instrumentation gave the project a distinctive identity within new-age and crossover classical-pop music, and its tracks have frequently been used in film trailers, television and advertising for their dramatic, epic quality.

The project's best-known tracks include «Ameno», «The Mass», «Divano» and «Enae Volare (Mezzo)», which brought ERA international recognition and made it one of the most commercially successful new-age acts of its era, with the invented-language vocals becoming a signature trademark of the sound.
