Empress Of

Empress Of is the solo project of Lorely Rodriguez, a singer, songwriter and producer based in Los Angeles who was raised in a Honduran-American household. She first drew attention in 2012 with a series of one-minute demos posted anonymously to YouTube under the title «Colorminutes», each introduced only by a solid color card, which built curiosity around her identity before she revealed herself as the artist behind them.

Her debut album Me, released in September 2015, was written and recorded largely on her own in Mexico City, reflecting themes of independence, heartbreak and self-reliance. The record established her blend of electronic pop with R&B-inflected vocals, minimal but emotionally direct production, and lyrics that move between English and Spanish. She followed it with Us in 2018 and I’m Your Empress Of in 2020, continuing to expand her palette while keeping her voice and perspective at the center.

Empress Of occupies a distinct place in contemporary pop and electronic music as an artist who writes, produces and often mixes her own material, resisting easy categorization between pop, R&B and experimental electronic. She has collaborated with and been remixed by a range of artists across indie and electronic scenes, and her willingness to sing in both English and Spanish has made her a notable voice bridging those audiences.
